Welcome to Strickland Suzuki Strings.
My name is Sarah Strickland and I offer private and group violin, viola, and piano lessons. My approach is strongly based in Suzuki principles, while also drawing inspiration and information from various other complimentary sources.
My love for teaching began early, and I started my first student when I was just 14 years old. Since then I have taught many instruments in many situations:
~ piano, violin, viola, cello, (and even recorder and band instruments!) in private lessons
~ directed school orchestras, school and church choirs, beginning band, church handbell choirs
~ served as a church pianist, organist, and music director
Along my journey I have felt the need for additional training and continuing education. My Academic Degrees:

I absorb ideas about playing and teaching music from many sources. In addition to the official Suzuki training listed above, I've taken a variety of professional development and pedagogy classes:
~ "Teaching the Violin and Viola: Creating a Healthy Foundation" by Stacia Spencer on coursera.org has been very influential with how I teach beginning violinists & violists.
~ In the Summer of 2018 I attended the "Retreat for Violin and Viola Teachers" let by Mimi Zweig and Brenda Brenner at IU Jacobs School of Music and was both reminded of what I've learned previously and inspired by new ideas.
~ I'm currently taking teacher development courses in Piano Safari Friends and Piano Safari Level 1 from the Piano Safari Pedagogy Institute. https://pianosafari.com/institute/
