Hello everyone!

There is a lot going on this month! I’ll try to be as brief as possible

  • October 7-11 will be our final week of the Fall Flashcard Focus. This has been a fun way

to learn new things! Just making a few minutes for a few weeks is exposing many students to new information. Great work everyone!

  • I hope you’ve been finding the topics covered in the Positive Practice workbook helpful. In

late October I’ll be sending out a survey to get your feedback on the book and the conversation format. Your input is valuable, so watch for that email with the survey link!

  • The first 6 weeks of group class included a “Body Mapping Moment”. We explored the

various “points of balance” as described in materials available from http://bodymap.org/main/ and how that is relevant to our playing and everyday life. It is my hope that being aware of these balance points can help us develop greater ease and comfort in playing.

  • How’s it going with the Practice Challenge? Are you counting the days, minutes, or both? It

would be wonderful to have a party for the top 6 or so practicers at the end of the semester! To keep track of where everyone is, beginning next week there will be a sheet on the bulletin board where participants can update their totals each week.

  • Fall Suzuki Play-In on Sunday November 10. 3:00pm at Bell Trace Senior Living.

Registrations are coming in for this fun opportunity to play along with other students! Please confirm with me if you wish or participate and whether you prefer for me to add you to the list or wish to receive the link to register yourself. We would like to have preliminary registrations in by October 10 so that we can select appropriate repertoire for all participants. Feel free to ask me if you have questions!

  • When we return from Fall Break in late October we will begin working on Christmas music.

There is so much wonderful repertoire from diverse traditions and cultural celebrations. As musicians it’s important that we take the opportunity this holiday season to learn as much as we can!

  • Video of the Week - in the teen/adult group class we’ve been learning about how your brain

learns. Here are links to the videos we watched this month.

Schedule stuff:

  • A reminder that Fall Break is Monday October 14 through Friday October 18, and there

will be NO lessons or groups that week.

  • Halloween falls on a Thursday this week. If you will be unable to attend your lesson or group

that day due to how you celebrate the holiday please let me know ASAP. While I can’t reschedule groups, there is the possibility that if I know sufficiently in advance I may be able to offer a reschedule option for your lesson.

Bloomington Symphony Orchestra will present the first concert of our 50th anniversary season this Sunday, October 6. 7:00PM at the Buskirk-Chumely Theater. I’m playing in the viola section. Hope to see you there! Some helpful links:

Whew - I think that about covers it. Happy practicing, and see you in lessons!  Miss Sarah
