It’s hard to believe summer is already halfway over!
This year has certainly contained surprises. I appreciate your flexibility and rapid adaptation to an online format in the middle of Spring Semester. Some of the advantages of the online format include being able to take lessons from the comfort of your own home, the convenience of not having to drive to lessons, and the ultimate reason of being 100% safe from any illness transmission.
Many are asking about when and how we might return to in person lessons, especially since the public schools are planning to return to in person classes in August. While I am eager for the connection that comes from meeting in person, as I watch the course the virus is taking around the nation I am choosing a very cautious approach. My reasons include concern for the safety of students and their families, for my own health and ability to teach, and to not bring illness home to my husband who is at higher risk.
Group Classes will remain online for the 20-21 school year. I am hopeful that by next Spring there will be a proven effective vaccine in wide enough use that we can return to something resembling our “old normal” way of life.
We are all dealing with many uncertainties, which can be very stressful. To eliminate one uncertainty and reduce everyone’s stress, we will plan to continue private lessons online at this time.
Phase 1 of returning to in person: When we see 30 days of continuous decline in cases at both the state and local county levels, I will consider offering some occasional outdoor in person “meetups” with abundant precautions. For greater stability and less stress these would not replace your regularly scheduled online lesson, they would be an optional “value added” bonus.
This plan may be adapted, and additional phases added, as new information is received.
Let’s get started planning for the coming year!
~ Calendar for August 2020-July 2021:
~ Tuition info and Policies 20-21: (note both this document and the website are in the process of being updated.)
We make studio-wide adjustments to lesson and group schedules twice a year when there are major changes in many people's lives:
~ At the beginning of the school year
~ At the beginning of the summer.
Other minor adjustments may be made on an individual as-needed basis throughout the year, pending schedule availability.
Please fill out the following survey, by July 23rd, regarding availability for the school year. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/5R2CX56
Please include ALL of your anticipated availability. The more information I have, the easier it is to sort out the schedule. At the end of the survey, you will have the opportunity to share your top preferences out of your entire availability.
~ On July 24th I will put a tentative schedule on the calendar, based on the survey replies I have received to date.
~ We may continue to tweak the calendar slightly until July 31 as needed for students taking lessons over the summer.
~ After that date any returning or new students will be worked into remaining schedule openings.
~ July 30th is the last day of Summer Session.
~ We have the first week of August off from lessons.
~ August 10th begins Fall Term and the new schedule.
I look forward to receiving your responses to the availability survey, and answering any questions you may have about future plans. Thank you for being part of the Strickland Suzuki Strings studio community!
